Skin Cancers

cancer-01
Skin cancers can develop on any part of the body but occurs most often on skin exposed to the sun. If diagnosed and treated early, they are potentially curable. At early stages when the cancer is still small, surgery is straightforward; however, in more advanced stages there could be a large defect after the removal of the cancer which would require reconstruction with skin grafts or flaps.

Cleft Lip & Palate

Cleft lip and cleft palate are birth defects that occur when a baby’s lip or palate do not form properly during pregnancy.

Services and treatment for children with cleft lip and palate can vary depending on the severity of the cleft and the child’s age and need. Surgery to repair a cleft lip usually occurs in the first few months of life and is recommended within the first 12 months of life. Surgery to repair a cleft palate is recommended within the first 18 months of life or earlier if possible. Many children will need additional surgical procedures as they get older.

Apart from achieving a normal looking face for the child, surgery and other additional therapy may also improve breathing, hearing, and speech and language development.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction is recommended at the time of mastectomy to help restore a patient’s body shape. This can be done with implants or with the patient’s own body tissues from the abdomen or back. Breast reconstruction can also be done for women, who have had prior mastectomy, after completing their treatment.

Facial Fracture Surgery

face-fracture
Facial bone injury may result from trauma from a motor vehicle accident or assault. This may result in facial deformities, double vision or difficulty in eating and chewing. In such cases, surgery that uses titanium plate and screw fixation to correct the facial deformity may be required.

Reconstruction of Defects

defect-01
Defects of the scalp, cranium, chest, abdomen, upper and lower extremities may result from trauma and resection of tumours. These defects may need reconstruction of soft tissue. In some cases, bony defects may need to be reconstructed as well. Reconstruction of these defects may require only a skin graft or in more complex cases would require reconstruction with soft tissue from adjacent area or from another part of the body.
